Signgo to expensive to use
10. Mar 2010 at 02:42

can someone please offer some suggestions on the problems.
master desay 380, signgo fd ver 1.12 ? 1.17?
windows xp pro
the software worked well for about a year now. Then---
1- measuring tool reads in metric, when drawing is in imperial
2-unexplained crashes[ sending error message to Microsoft]
now with updated fd file to 1.17 in "downloads"
3-cuts across page destroying work
4-displayed message after destroying work "can't communicate with devise-yes/no

i tied update to 1.17 but the "about signgo" lists as 1.12?
the computer is not connected to internet, has good anti virus protection. i called master warehouse with no response or help, some thing a person may want to keep in mind before buying from them.
sent email to signgo.
the software is unusable at this point.
i use corral draw its slow but shows me the plotter is ok.
Thank you for any help.

I think a first start is to kill the ini file as previously mentioned.

Maybe this will resolve the inch/mm problem - my normal signgo (the shareware version) dose not have this problem and there has been no other mention of it.

I'll try and make an INI file cleaner and it can be a problem to find. then post a link to it

Nearly there on a reset, seems Signgo buried its ini files in various folders over the versions. I wonder if this is the problem  Smiley

Try this though
Search the C drive for SigngoFD ini files. if more than one is found delete the extras.

Search for Signgofd.ini in the Windows folder - this would be an early one - delete it
Search for Application.ini in documents and settings (XP) or Users(Vista/7)
You should only have one in
documents and settings\username\application data \ SignGoFD

if there is one in all users then delete it

Maybe this is the mm/inch problem

SignGo Reset program. This download will find, display and give the opportunity to reset the Signgo, Signgolite, SigngoFD and SigngoLiteFD programs.

This has been tested with Signgo (and lite) and the download of the FD but not a working FD version - it should work though Smiley

Thank you for your response alen. I have now reinstalled my windows xp, used my upgraded fd117 key. the only files carried over are the "program file" it has 2 files 1 is the license.
Problems are 1- metric in dimension line editor  2-i receive the message "the devices is not responding continue?" if i do nothing the plotter stops and drags knife across artwork, damaging it. if i press yes it continuous to display message, but if i keep pressing "yes" over and over  20 plus times it will remove the pop up window and keep cutting. this means i must sit and watch for the pop up and begin pressing yes or my work is garbage. as for crashes i would be happy at this point if i could get it to cut properly. thanks for your help.

that cutter message is its memory filling and failing to tell signgo to restart sending data, the result is dropped data and more important the penup command is going missing sometime.

The problem is handshake of some sort but where? Possibly the serial cable? a broken wire the CTS line "Clear to send" may be broken, Its a long time since I used to troubleshoot rs232 connections. It  can be the chipset in the plotter assuming a real serial cable is used not a USB into the cutter.

If this cutter has a parallel interface and the PC has a parallel (printer) connector then connect using those ports - a 25 to 25 pin cable would be the one I think as most of this type of cutter I have come across has a 25pin parallel connector not the correct 36 pin centronics connector. If it suddenly starts behaving then its either the cable or the cutters serial chipset.

On the problem with the units I suggest  you email support@signgo.com  as this may be a bug in the program. I do not have the FD version so though mine is OK (the shareware 1.17 version) there could be something up with the FD version.

Smiley Smiley

That explains it, it wasn't the measuring tool (tools>edit measure tools) but the dimension editor.

missed that Sad I wonder if Signgo might call that a bug, the dimension line editor not starting in the current units
